Over the weekend you all helped us unlock Print in Color.
The book will now be offset printed in full color. Thank you for making that happen!
We only have a few days left on the clock and a few stretch goals yet to be reached. We'd love to add another 16 pages to the book, which is the stretchiest of goals. Keep spreading the word!

Howard Draws a New Cover!

Greetings Backers!
Thanks to you we've funded the Howard Draws a New Cover goal.
This is amazing and makes us very happy. We're also only about 40 backers away from the 600 books ordered that we need in order to be able to print in color. (Note: PDF copies do count toward this goal!)
We've got five days left and a few more stretch goals we'd love to reach.
$40,000 Watch Howard Draw!. Howard will turn on the timelapse function in Clip Studio Paint while he’s drawing the cover art. We’ll make that video available for everyone to view.
$45,000 Ask Howard questions! We’ll schedule a special Q&A session for backers once backers all have their pdf copies of the book. During that session you can ask questions that you have about the book or anything else. The recording will be available to both backers and to Insiders on our Patreon.
$50,000 EVEN BIGGER BOOK! We’ll expand the book to 96 pages adding a section on Digital Doodling where we explore more about Howard learning to draw digitally after the end of the comic. We’ll also be able to include a section on the accessibility adjustments we have made to accommodate Howard’s Long Covid. (There will be photographs of his reclined workstation!) We’ll also reprint Resident Mad Scientist.

A Peek at the Contents List

Sandra put together a preliminary list of what will go into Doodling as a Hobby. She made a side-by-side comparison of the 32 page version and the 80 page version. (Only $750 more and we get to have the bigger version!)
This list is very preliminary. Howard posted an idea on Bluesky that I definitely want to make space for. Howard's idea in his own words:
One of the stories I want to tell—and illustrate, of course—is the discovery of how my hyperphantasia ("mental picture") worked *against* me. (tl;dr - the better I can picture things in my head, the worse my penciling gets, because I'm doing the inking. Nobody else can ink for me.) I think it'll be fun to find some of my very loosest pencils, and then show the inking as a reveal on the page-turn.
So that is a quick Friday update for you. Only 13 more days to stretch goal this project into being even cooler!

Adjusting the Stretch Goals

Greetings Backers,
As we've been doing preparatory work for production of Doodling as a Hobby, we realized that we want to shuffle some of the stretch goals both to make them more achievable and because we think it will add better value to the book. With that in mind we have THREE ANNOUNCEMENTS!
FIRST:
We've unlocked the Desktop Megapack add-on. This will be a digital pack of every desktop and phone background we find while digging through the archives. It is also possible that Howard will make a new one just for this project. The Desktop Megapack is automatically included for all HESH level backers. It is available to everyone else as a $25 add-on.
SECOND:
We're adjusting the next two stretch goals.
$30,000 Expand Doodling as a Hobby! Sandra will dig through Howard's art archives finding even more material and developing the sketchbook further. We'll expand it from 32 pages to 80 pages, more than double its current size. 150% more book!
$35,000 Howard draws new cover art! Instead of using existing art for the cover, we’ll have Howard draw something brand new.
THIRD:
Sandra conferred with the printer in China and we need fewer copies than we thought to make offset printing worthwhile. So we're adjusting that goal too!
600 Copies of DOODLING AS A HOBBY sold: We’ll be able to afford offset printing on this project and we’ll upgrade the interior of the book to color.
